Jerry sent over 3 very close over while we were getting ready to leave. After living in the house over 2 weeks we’re pretty lucky no shells hit the house & no one getting hurt or killed & we all had some mighty close calls. Thank guard we are back with the battery. -(Sentence is correctly copied) While we were at the front the battery had about 35 raids. The night of the 19th Jerry dropped a bomb 500 lb. on the battery & it landed on the edge of our pit. Lucky we weren’t there. (When I spoke to George Sellarole Jr. at the age of 85 this was the one event he made a point of mentioning. He believed God had spared them much like Harry Doremus in his letter to his wife during World War I where he states “We are in a sector that is violently active. So it is that only God allows the breath of life to stay here, to stop there. As the book says, ‘the one shall be taken, the other left.'") On the 21st. Jerry came over & dropped a mess of persanel-(?) & wounding 4 men, (2 Lts. & 2 Privates.) Feb. 24 & 25 Note: This is the end of what we refer to as page 18. |
