Left Dix at 10 A.M. took train to N. Y. & ferry to Staten Island to transport.
Nov. 2.
Set sail at 3:30 A.M. Was on guard. Destination unknown.
Nov. 3.
We found out we were going to French Morocco Africa.
Nov. 5.
We received 5 dollars part of pay for the month.
Nov. 18
Boat docked at Casablanca Africa at 4 P.M. It was a 3600 mile trip. Raining
Nov. 19
Got off of boat at 6:30 P.M. Count Bianco name of boat. Walked five miles to Bivowac area. Raining
Nov. 22
Had first mail call. Received a few letters. Thanksgiving out in field. Roast beef for Turkey. Was go??
Note; These are the days he recorded on the first page. The first day he put the year so this becomes a reference point as to the following dates. The recordings on this page coincide exactly with the invasion dates recorded in history books during the fall of 1942.
-On Nov. 19 the word “bivowac” is where they would setup camp to sleep etc.
- On Nov. 22 the corner of the page is curled and torn so it is hard to read but it probably was the word “good”.
-Admiral H. Kent Hewitt from Hackensack led this invasion and encountered fighting with the Vichy French forces and beat them decisively to land the troops ashore. Whether George Sellarole experienced any of this from his troop ship is not mentioned.
