Sept. 8 continued:
to fire really meant something.  The people are going crazy in the streets.  There kissing the soldiers & crying because there happy.
The Russians are pushing hell out of Germany.  The news is good & I’m dreaming of a white Xmas & a good meal with the folks.

Oct. 25
We started to get our gun ready to move.  When we’re moving no one knows.

Oct. 26
Exactly one year ago today we boarded a troop ship at Staten Island.
Cpl. Nevue & Jake Smith were killed by a train this morning.

Oct. 27
Pulled gun out of pit this morning.  We’ll be leaving soon.

Oct. 28
Left position at 1 p.m. for Bivwack area. Only the guns

Oct. 28 continued:
are going by boat & the rest are leaving Oct. 30 for Italy.  I’m driving jeep & going
by boat. Raining

Oct. 29- L.S.T. 327
Boarded L.C.T. at 9, A.M.
Left Sicily at 12 noon for Italy. Traveled for 3 hrs. then had to turn back, boat
broke down.

Oct. 30
Still in port at Palermo, boat not repaired yet.

Nov. 2
Still repairing boat.  Living on boat & hanging around.
One year ago today at 3 A.M. we left the good old U.S.A. for foreign service. Time sure went fast.

Nov. 5
Still on boat in Palermo Generator broke down this morning, no lights, no water &
no chow

Unloading equipment & going on another boat, 2:30 P.M.

Nov. 6, -L.S.T. 378
Left the shores of Sicily. Raining.
