United Nations Mission for the Referendum in Western Sahara Medal

Awarded for 90 days of service with United Nations forces in the Western Sahara of Africa from April 29, 1991 to present monitoring the cease-fire between Moroccan troops and the Frente Polisario – a Sahrawi movement working for the independence of Western Sahara. United Nations forces facilitated a referendum for determining the future of the region (including determination of the independence or integration with Morocco issue) and provided movement control. Following the election, the mandate was to monitor the
cease-fire.
