White Plains from Tarawa to Philippines; at invasion of Marshalls, Saipan, Tinian, Palau Islands; at battle of Leyte Gulf, (was called second Sea Battle of Philippines – very exciting) ; On U.S.S. Shipley Bay; at invasion of Okinawa; Neutralized (blew up) the island of Sakishima; back to States August 10, 1945; at home on V-J Day August 14, 1945…..Graduated New Milford Junior High School June 1939.New Milford in World War II |
