Fulton meets Padovano in Pacific Article 1945

Pacific Theater

Army Air Corps Lieutenant

Neil Fulton joined the service shortly after Pearl Harbor December 7, 1941. By May of 1942, Neil was in Greenville Mississippi at the Army Air Corps flying school for basic flying training.

By the time Iwo Jima was being fought, he was a seasoned veteran and had risen to the rank of Lieutenant. He also was a flight commander and squadron leader of a B-29 Superfort Group. A Squadron leader is in charge of between 10 to 30 men at any given time. Neil risked his life landing on Iwo Jima to see Carl Padovano, his high school buddy (both 1939 HHS graduates) who was injured in battle.

One can read about this story in the Carl Padovano interview.
