The Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941, then,
The Record newspaper, on Tuesday, February 17, 1942, carried this article on six Hackensack young men living within one block of each other getting ready to leave for Fort Dix, NJ that day.

Adam Gan at age 26 had two younger brothers already in the service:
Manuel Gan, 20 years old, a Petty officer in the Navy, and Walter Gan,
22 years old, in Coast Artillery in the San Francisco area.

There are nine Hackensack young men mentioned in the article. Two are his brothers already in the service mentioned above, and one is an attorney who lived in another area of Hackensack.
